Conversion Methodology & Primary Sources

China Converters publishes practical calculators and chart-reading guides. This page identifies the assumptions behind the result so you can reproduce it and choose the right reference.

Clothing, shoes and bra labels

Clothing code decoding and retail size comparison are different tasks. A code such as 170/92A describes reference height and a body measurement. The second number means chest/bust for tops and waist for bottoms. It does not identify a universal US M. The measurement tools compare your body with a seller’s stated body reference, full garment circumference or confirmed flat width. A positive garment-minus-body difference is room, not a fit guarantee.

Suzhou Market Regulation’s clothing-code explanation supports the code components. The decoder does not invent sex-specific body-type ranges or international retail equivalents.

Adult footwear uses the adidas men’s and women’s chart. Its EU-style labels, US columns and heel-to-toe measurements are kept together. Missing labels are not interpolated; in-between foot lengths show both neighbouring rows. A printed millimetre foot-length label is separated from an EU-style marketplace label and shoe inside length.

Children’s clothes and shoes use H&M’s children’s references. The clothing tool compares height and body ranges; the footwear tool separates little-kid and big-kid US numbering. Age is not used to guess a size.

Bra labels use Triumph’s separate EU, US and GB band/cup columns. Band labels are nominal. Cup sequences can differ after D, and unlisted FF/GG labels are not guessed. The converter does not select a new bra from age, clothing letters or body weight.

Modern units and precision

Modern mainland jin is 500 g, li is 500 m, chi is 1/3 m and mu is 2,000/3 m². The government unit table and the modern-unit guide explain the stated context. International pounds, inches and acres use their exact metric factors. Historical and regional meanings are not inferred from a unit name alone.

Ordinary measurement calculations retain factors until display rounding. The body-measurement comparison displays at most two decimal places; other outputs state or demonstrate their rounding. Wan/yi uses decimal-string place shifting so very large decimal inputs are not silently truncated by floating-point arithmetic. Compound Chinese expressions are outside that parser’s scope.

Regional weight definitions

Mainland catty/jin = 0.5 kg. Taiwan tai-jin = 0.6 kg, tai-liang = 37.5 g and tai-qian = 3.75 g. Hong Kong sima catty = 0.60478982 kg, with sima tael equal to 1/16 catty and sima mace equal to 1/160 catty. Sources: Taiwan BSMI unit reference, Taipei government tai-qian reference and Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Council, Appendix 2. Only unit arithmetic is used; this is not a prescription calculator.

Currency reference data

The browser requests dated pair rates or a history range from the Frankfurter v2 API. The result displays the returned observation date; latest daily data can differ from today’s date. Historical availability varies by currency and period. The rate request contains codes and date/range; amount and assumed fee stay in the browser.

Conversion = amount × returned pair rate. A percentage-fee scenario multiplies that result by (1 − fee/100). It does not include fixed charges or a bank’s spread. A failed request produces an error and disables copying; no bundled snapshot is substituted. History charts and CSV contain the returned observations without inventing missing dates.

Lunar dates, birthdays and age

The existing solarlunar 3.1.0 data supports Gregorian dates 1901–2099 in these tools. Complete lunar-year month overviews cover 1901–2098 so the whole year stays inside the supported Gregorian range. Daily fixtures from Hong Kong Observatory’s 2025–2027 tables were checked in both directions. This is not a claim that every supported date was independently verified; HKO notes possible one-day uncertainty on some far-future dates near midnight.

Leap-month input is validated against the actual year. Lunar birthdays require an explicit leap-month and missing-day-30 policy; adjusted dates are labelled. Zodiac uses Lunar New Year, not January 1 or an unannounced Li Chun boundary. Nominal age starts at one and increases at Lunar New Year. It is separate from completed Gregorian age and is not legal age. No birth-time chart, gender prediction or fortune is calculated.

Publisher, checks and corrections

The responsible publisher is China Converters. Calculators and guides are maintained with software assistance, including AI-assisted implementation and editing. We do not invent expert biographies, personal qualifications, endorsements or third-party reviews. Checks include source-table comparisons, date fixtures, arithmetic, invalid inputs, mobile layouts, internal links and consistent canonical URLs. Passing those checks does not prove a garment will fit or that every historical interpretation is correct.

Only substantively changed pages receive a new modification date. Browser tool events contain event name, tool ID and pathname, without pasted charts, measurements or birthdays. Read About China Converters or report a correction with the tool URL and source context. Sources and example assumptions are also shown on individual tools.
