Quick rule: a US 6 maps to Chinese M. But woven fabrics (cotton, denim, blazers) often need one size up — Chinese patterns are drafted slimmer and don't ease.

02 /How to use this converter correctly

Most shoppers go wrong by translating label-to-label (Chinese L → US L). Chinese garments are cut for slimmer East-Asian frames, so the letters were never calibrated to the same body.

1. Measure in centimetres

Wrap a soft tape around the fullest part of your bust and the narrowest part of your waist. Don't pull tight. Use cm — the chart speaks cm.

2. Match to the bust column

On any Taobao or Shein listing, the only number that really matters is bust (胸围 · xiōngwéi). Find your measurement in the chart above and read across.

3. Add ease for wovens

Cotton, denim and tailored blazers don't stretch. Add 2 cm to your bust measurement, or simply size up one step.

If you're between sizes — size up. A loose Chinese garment is a standard Western fit.

03 /Chinese women's sizing questions

Is Chinese L the same as US L?

No. Chinese L is closer to a US S or M. Plan to order one to two letter sizes up, and always verify with the bust measurement in centimetres.

What does 160/84A mean on the label?

160 — height in cm. 84 — bust in cm. A — standard body type (B is fuller, C curvier). So 160/84A is drafted for a 160 cm woman with an 84 cm bust. Full breakdown →

Do Shein sizes match Chinese sizes?

Shein labels in US/EU letters but the underlying patterns are Chinese, so items run small. Always check the cm chart on the product page rather than the letter alone.

Should I size up when buying from Taobao?

What about plus sizes?

Most Chinese sellers stop at 3XL (104 cm bust). For larger, search 大码 · dà mǎ ("big size") shops, which often carry up to 5XL.

Does this work for Chinese kids' sizes?

No — kids' sizes use a separate height-based system (90, 100, 110…). A children's converter is coming soon.
